It's that time of year again when the days become longer and the sun shines through the window begging us to come outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. It's also the time of year that we are encouraged to spring clean our homes and our life of the winter dust, clutter, and negativity that we've allowed strangling our lives and creativity.
As business people, we tend to gather stuff that makes no sense to our business, and we sometimes feel as though the walls are caving in on us due to the clutter in our office. Well, today I am going to encourage you to take some time to spring clean that office and declutter your life so that your creativity can flow freely within your soul.
Now comes the hard part of spring cleaning, deciding on whether or not something should stay or be donated or thrown out once and for all. My rule is that if I haven't used it in the last 6 months and don't plan to use it in the next 6 months, get rid of it.
As I sort through everything, I also separate everything by category to ensure I can find things once I am done deciding to keep or get rid of stuff. Sorting is pretty simple, put stuff together that is related like writing implements go together, etc. Once you have everything sorted, decide what type of container to store the items in. I use clear plastic storage containers, so I can see what's in the container without having to go through box after box and find what I'm looking for usually in the last box. This also makes it easy to pack up should I move or travel somewhere and want to bring specific stuff with me to use. Plus it also helps me save money when I know what supplies I own and what I am running low on and need to replenish.
Knowing what supplies you have on hand, helps you to know what you really need, and can plan to purchase only what you need and not do impulse buying like I used to do. Get organized and then get busy being creative with your business. Cleaning your area allows your mind to become more creative over time. The stress of knowing your workspace is clean and organized allows your creative juices to flow more productively. So get to your Spring cleaning and become more creative as a result. Happy Cleaning.
