How to design your future
Happy New Year! Ok, this is January and a new year, so let’s start it off properly.
What I want you to do for the next few weeks is relax and pull out a legal pad
and pen, sit quietly with a cup of coffee, a glass of your favorite beverage, and
think about what you would do if you were given a million dollars. What would you
do with it? Make a list of what you would do with it and then when you’re done,
prioritize it and flesh out each item with a broader definition of what you
would do with that kind of money. Design a step-by-step format of what you
would do with it. Then cross off any item that doesn’t seem possible or was far-reaching to consider. Don’t throw those items away for they might be your best
ideas yet. Make a list like the following:
1 Pay off all outstanding bills.
A Car loan
B Mortgage
C Student loans
D Prepay utilities for one year.
2 Start a business. What kind of business?
A Order business cards
B Buy a new computer
C Buy Accounting Software
D Create a business plan
3 ????
A
B
c
Now that you’ve got
your list of desires, it’s time to put them into action. You might not have a
million dollars, but you now have a roadmap to follow and the reasons why you
want to start that new business venture. You want to pay off your bills, you
want to start a new business, but what kind of business. If it’s real estate,
then you need to take classes and pass a licensing test. If it’s consulting,
are you qualified to consult, do you have a degree to back it up, or do you
have the skills to qualify as a consultant. Is it a construction company, do
you have the tools and supplies to make it happen? These are all questions that
you need to have answered in your roadmap listing. Now set out to do this
homework in January and then send me a message as to your questions to be
answered in February. Meanwhile, for the rest of the month, I will post
inspirational quotes and sayings to keep you on track.
