7 steps to actually achieve and set goals

Have you ever missed a goal you set? Life happens!  Other priorities pop up or tasks take longer than planned. But don’t worry, being intentional about your goals can boost your chances of success!  Check out these powerful tips to tackle those overwhelming goals with confidence!

1. Visualize Success

To crush your goals, first imagine what success feels like or would look like to you!

Visualization is your secret weapon—picture the results as if you've already achieved them. Use all your senses to immerse yourself in that future moment.

Create a personal vision statement or vision board that reflects your values and aspirations, fueling clarity and motivation on your journey toward greatness!

2. Create SMART Goals!

Research shows that specific goals can supercharge your performance, persistence, and motivation compared to vague ones.

Let’s break down the SMART acronym:

S: Specific - Define your goals clearly.

M: Measurable - Use metrics to track progress.

A: Attainable - Keep it realistic with available resources.

R: Relevant - Align with broader success!

T: Time-bound - Set deadlines for effective pacing.

For example:

S: Get all customers to complete satisfaction surveys at contract start & after two quarters.

M: Boost customer satisfaction by 15% in two quarters!

A: Ratings have been rising consistently, it's achievable!

R: Aim for a reputation centered on exceptional customer care.

T: Deadline is set for the end of next two quarters!

With these elements, you're primed for greater success!

3. Write Down Your Goals

Writing your goals makes them real! A study showed that jotting down your objectives boosts your chances of success compared to those who don’t. Plus, sharing your goals with others keeps you accountable. With someone cheering you on, you'll feel more driven to stay committed and shine!

4. Transform Your Action Plan into an Outline

Transform your big dreams into achievable steps! Break down those long-term goals with a “goal ladder.”  Write your main goal at the top and let smaller tasks become the rungs leading you upward. Don’t forget to create a to-do list!  Check off completed steps for that sweet sense of achievement and set due dates to stay on track!

5. Set a Timeline

A timeline for your goals keeps you focused, organized, and on track to achieve success! Remember to keep it realistic. If you're aiming to write a book by year-end but have only penned half a chapter every two months, that deadline might need adjusting.   Also, factor in work projects, travel plans, and other commitments when setting those timelines!

6. List your Obstacles

Setting realistic goals means recognizing the challenges ahead. From resource shortages to unexpected life events, roadblocks are bound to pop up! Make a list of potential barriers and brainstorm ways to tackle them. Being prepared will make these obstacles feel less daunting on your journey to success!

7. Recruit someone to hold you accountable to your goals!

Achieving goals solo can feel isolating and daunting. But with the right support, you’ll stay motivated and on track! Reach out to a friend, family member, or life coach to be your accountability partner.   Share your goals, give them weekly updates, and let them inspire you with motivational quotes along the way!

Now is the time to Reflect and adjust your goal timeline

Life can throw us curveballs, and that’s perfectly fine! Instead of feeling defeated, take a moment to reflect on your goals. Identify what's thriving and what needs adjustment. Adapt your plan to keep moving forward!
